Do you have some questions before you schedule your free 15-minute Therapy consultation?

You may feel overwhelmed in searching for a therapist. You already have so much on your plate. You don’t want to pick the wrong therapist. This already feels hard enough just looking at a therapist’s website.

I totally understand. It is a brave choice to ask for help and I want to make sure you find right fit too, which is why I offer a free 15-minute phone consultation to tell you more about the work I do with anxious, driven, and motivated women in Nashville.

Here are some frequently asked questions to help you better understand the next steps.

How to Choose a Therapist in Tennessee?

How do I know if I really need counseling?

Jessica McCoy, LMFT | Nashville Therapist

When you begin to notice your anxiety, stress, depression or mood are impacting either your relationships, work, or health is when counseling is indicated to help you. Also, if you are going through a stressful session of life (job changes, becoming a mother, or getting divorced) are all major transitions that may increase your need to counseling.

How do I choose a therapist?

Choosing a therapist is a very personal process. Referrals from a doctor or loved one is often a first step, but looking at a therapist’s specialities can be another great option.

Ultimately, speaking with a therapist to make sure they are a good fit for your needs is the best option. I offer a free 15-minute therapy consultation to help decide if working with me will be the right fit for you.

Tuesdays and Thursdays and it will be online through the SimplePractice Telehealth.

I have evening appointments on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Scheduling Counseling Appointments

How do I schedule an appointment?

Click here and fill out the form to request a consult call and I will send you a confirmation email once I know that the time will work.  We will have a free 15-minute phone consultation before your first visit.

What happens during a 15-minute therapy consultation?

Over the phone, we will discuss what you are looking for help with and I will share what I can offer to help best meet your needs. This call is a great way for you to make sure I am a good fit for you. If I am not a good fit or don't offer what you need, then I will do my best to help you find the right resources for your next steps.

Fees & Insurance for Counseling

What are your rates and how can I pay?

My rates are $175 per 50-minute session. I do offer some sliding scale slots, but those slots are currently full.

You are able to pay with your debit or credit card or use your Health Savings Account or Flex Spending Account.

How do I know if I need to go to therapy

Will my insurance cover this?

I do not take insurance, but I do provide a form for you if you want to pursue insurance reimbursement. We can discuss this option during our phone consultation, but here are some important factors to keep in mind. Your insurance would need to reimburse an out of network provider and you would need to meet the criteria for a medical diagnosis (e.g. anxiety, depression, or post traumatic stress disorder).

I will provide the documentation (called a Superbill), but you will be responsible for seeking reimbursement from your insurance. Each insurance company and plan vary with how they reimburse and how much they financially reimburse.

The Counseling Process with Jessica

Where do therapy sessions take place?

As of the middle of March 2020 all of my sessions are virtual counseling sessions, which allows women in Nashville, but also throughout Tennessee easier access to working with me.

What should I expect in the first session?
After your phone consultation, I will send you online paperwork to fill out before your first session, which will be delivered through my private and secure electronic health record Simple Practice. During the first session we will discuss your history as well as your goals for our time together. You will also have time to ask me any questions you have about our clinical work. Together we will create a plan to help you reach your goals.

How do counseling sessions typically last?

My sessions are 50 minutes.

How often will we meet together?

We will meet weekly to help create progress as quickly as possible. Typically, we will find an hour every week that works for you to come consistently.

How long will I need to be in counseling?

It depends on your needs and situation. My goal is for you to reach your goals and be able to maintain progress. Determining progress is something that we will discuss in our sessions. We will create a plan together to discern when the time is right to end our work together.
